n the first place the value for money is incredible, then there’s the people, a more charming bunch than you will meet anywhere in the world. Turkish food is mouth-wateringly delicate and beautifully presented, forget about kebabs you get in Britain, to eat Turkish style is to chose a series of small dishes, or meze. Start with borek, little parcel’s of filo pastry usually stuffed with goats cheese, and Turkish pizza is also something of a specialty. Wash it all down with the local wine or the obligatory Efis beer. Shopping in Turkey is remarkable, with only one word to sum up prices – “Cheap”. Local specialties include leather, jewellery and carpets. in bigger resorts, look out for genuine designer clothes too. Don’t be afraid to haggle – the shopkeepers expects it. and one last point worth remembering, Turkey is not yet a member of the European Union, so stock up on those duty frees! 
Turkey is blessed with some of the finest beaches to be found anywhere in the Mediterranean; long stretches of white and golden sand, often un crowded, lapped by warm shallow waters perfect for swimming and water sports. Some of Turkey’s finest beaches are to be found at Dalyan, Olu Deniz, Alanya, Altinkum.
